Brazil: A Saga Ends – Gambling Regulation Enacted

Brazil’s new online gaming regulation

In the last moments of the year 2023, Brazil has enacted its much-anticipated online gaming regulation, by ways of Act 14.790/23, after a year-long legal saga.

Under the new law, fixed-odds betting operators and online casinos can obtain licences in one of the biggest markets in Latin America.

As much as the expectations to the Brazilian regulated market are high, throughout the industry, a proper regulatory set up is a must for any applicant company, ensuring the fulfilment of compliance obligations, maintenance and upholding of licences granted and, by this, become a successful stakeholder with a sustainable foothold in a highly competitive market.

Law 14.790 sets out requirements in the compliance areas of, inter alia, internal control systems, risk management, complaints handling, AML/CFT, player protection and addiction prevention, sports and game integrity and fraud prevention.
